Tyrese Shares The Best Advice He Ever Got From Mentor Will Smith

Singer/Actor/Songwriter Tyrese Gibson has moved on to other business ventures starting with the release of his self-help book called 'How To Get Out Your Own Way'.

'How To Get Out Your Own Way' is organized into a series of fundamental questions that helped Tyrese redefine who he was as a human being, and evolve into a new man. Tyrese stresses that life becomes infinitely richer when one takes the time to know him or herself and understand the true meaning of peace and fulfillment. This book is a guide to helping yourself, using his experiences as a learning tool. "It's not about talking down to people, it's about elevating them," Tyrese says."

While on The Wendy Williams Show, Tyrese explained his mentor Will Smith gave him the best piece of advice he could have shared in his new book:

"The first thing he dropped on me was you can often tell how far your life and career will go based on the five people you spend the most time with so I had to really sit back and really marinate on that. So I said, 'So if I have a problem with my life I should have a problem with the people in my life.' He was like, 'Yes, exactly.' So that's when the mission began to better my surroundings and keep everybody around me sharp because it's very easy to get lackadaisical and have people that work with you and for you to just go through the motions."

How To Get Out Your Own Way is in stores now and recently made The New York Times Bestseller list.

Go Tyrese!

Nicki Minaj Delays Premiere of 'Super Bass' Video

Unfortunately, the release of Nicki Minaj's 'Super Bass' video has been delayed, according to Nicki's twitter account she tweeted the following:

Although the video hasn't made it's debut on BET's 106 & Park, you can watch the 30 second V.I.Peek clip of Nicki Minaj and her clone barbz dressed in nothing more than daisy dukes and of course pink herre.
Video director Sanaa Hamri of "Super Bass" also directed Nicki and Rihanna's 'Fly' video which is set to release in late May. In the meantime, Nicki let her fans know that once the Super Bass video premieres, she wants to have a contest to find the best fan-made video for the song. This should be quite interesting.

Soulja Boy Talks Low Sales Of The Deandre Way + Lil B's 'I'm Gay' Album Title

On the disappointing sales of The Deandre Way Album

“I wouldn’t have been able to go platinum first week anyway, because the label only shipped like 18,000 copies. So I wasn’t able to do gold first week or even 100k, none of that. They only put like 8,000 units in Best Buy. It was crazy. I didn’t know all of that though. I was just going off of, ‘My album’s going to be in stores, so I’m going to promote it as much as I can.’ I’m not the type of person to just be out like, ‘Hey, my label did this and I was in a situation with that.’ But I don’t want to get caught up in record-label-artist drama or nothing like that. I just want to keep everything cool to make music, that’s all.

On S.O.D. artist Lil B and his "I'm Gay" Album

“His [I’m Gay album] is not going to be on S.O.D., that’s going to be one of his mixtapes. Let me tell you something about B [Laughs], he’s really trying to push that words don’t mean shit. Even when we would always have conversations, he would always be like, ‘Man, I’m going to be a human sacrifice.’ Because even with some of the songs that he puts out, I’ll ask him about it like, ‘Yo, what are you talking about in this part right here?’ And he’s like, ‘Nah bruh, I’m being me.’ Because you know how any time anyone ever disrespects somebody, they say, ‘Aw man, you a bitch. Aw man, you gay.’ That nigga B, he’s got so much confidence in himself he said, ‘I’m a bitch. I’m gay. I’m all that shit.’ He doesn’t give a fuck. I respect it.

Rappers Express Their Views On Lil B's New 'I'm Gay' LP Title

Rapper Lil B is causing quite a stir with his recent announcement during his performance at Coachella on Saturday (April 16) revealing the title to his new album, 'I'm Gay.'

Lil B quickly stated the reasoning behind his controversial LP title. He said that he does not partake in that lifestyle while adding he loves 'women', but he wants to make a statement about the power of words, or lack thereof.

XXLMag.com reached out to various artists from the East, the South and the Mid-West: Talib Kweli, Freddie Gibbs and Killer Mike; to find out their reactions to the news.

“Immediately (upon hearing the hubbub) I’m like not that’s a fuckin’ social experiment, if I’ve ever heard one,” Kwe told XXL. “Look I don’t care who you sleep with at the end of the day. I don’t care if Lil B’s gay or not. It doesn’t change my life in any way, but for him to name his album I’m Gay, issues such a challenge to his fans. I’m not sure if it’s brilliant or not, but what he did with that, in one fell swoop, was challenge every single bandwagon fan. Like are you really down with me or not. And me as an artist, I have no choice but to respect that. “

Gibbs, also a former XXL Freshman alum, sees it differently.
“[The] Lil B shit was funny at first but now I feel like it’s just a bunch of white people laughing at a nigga, like a minstrel show. Shit is wack. I ain’t dissin’ gays, if you gay that’s yo biz.”
Mike Bigga, on the other hand, feels as if he understands B’s strategy behind the title. “He’s a happy guy, Gay means happy,” the ATLien reminded readers. “It makes perfect sense to me. It’s a provocative, bold thing to me. That’s what B does. It’s not as shocking to me. From a social element . . . this just feels like knocking down walls and stereotypes, embracing controversy and flipping it. Bravo to him for being the next Madonna. I also don’t think Lil B could ever make some of the music that I make. If he’s rapping about (gay) lifestyle the whole album, no I probably wouldn’t want to hear it. If he’s rapping on some hip-hop shit and it’s a weird ass, weird Lil B album . . . I’d probably buy it like i I did his last (album) and have a little laugh.”
Talib Kweli expresses his views on the the growth of the hip-hop community and it's embrace on differerent lifestyle choices as it continues to grow, which is already leaning towards a more positive path,

“I’m happy to see young hip-hop heads move [away from] homophobia,” he said. “Regardless of what your stance is on gay people, homophobia or the act and practice of it, is extra wack.

Kid Cudi Says He Used Weed For Recreational Purposes & Explains Decision To Quit

What may have seemed like a mere April Fool's joke to most fans when rapper Kid Cudi announced his decision to quit smoking weed, it turns out Cudi wasn't joking around afterall. During the Rites of Spring show on Saturday, a fan caught footage of Kid Cudi explaing the reasons which inspired his decision.

"You know how some people can take a smoke and they’re good, they do it for recreational purposes, !! like that. I was the mother!!er who was doing that !! all the time, recreationally, every day, wake up, needed it, all those things. While I was in that state of mind I just was missing a lot of !! that was going on in my circle. I just felt like I needed to just take a step back, clear my dome and focus on some real imporant !!. Like my daughter for one, my family, my business, things that are important. But you know, don’t be sad, I had a good run right? “
Good for you Cudi! You had a good run, now it's over ..or is it? Hmm

Director Francis Lawrence Says Beyonce's "Girl" Video Will Be "Big"

Notable video director, Francis Lawrence confirmed to MTV News that he just wrapped up work on Beyonce's new video. Although he isn't allowed to give any details, he seems excited promising that this clip will live up to the expectations that have build up from the leaked photos while on set.

"The video's for the songs 'Girls'; it's off her new album," he said. "She would probably have me shot if I said anything. ... Some stuff spilled out, but she wasn't happy about it, so I've been sworn to secrecy."

"It'll be big, it'll probably be one of the bigger Beyoncé music videos ever done," he added. "And, I can say that I think the song is unbelievable."
Francis goes on to express his predictions on Beyonce's upcoming "Girls" video debut compared to his most recent work to date, Lady Gaga's '09 "Bad Romance"

"The Gaga thing took me by surprise, 'cause I've done videos for probably 15 years, and I had forgotten what it felt like to have a video premiere and have it be anticipated and have it explode," he explained. "And yeah I hope the same for Beyoncé, but I don't know if that's gonna happen. It is a fantastic song, so I really hope that song catches for her, and I think the video's gonna be really fun and cool and different for her."

Drake & Nicki Minaj Interview Each Other For MTV

While in New Orleans during Lil Wayne's 'I Am Still Music Tour,' MTV's own Sway caught up with Miss Nicky Minaj and Drizzy Drake for a quick interview, but it seemed the two YMCMB labelmates decided to interview each other rather than tend to Sway's questioning.

Drake started off the interview, asking about Nicki's "peak moment" onstage, when can we expect new music and would she make an appearance on his forthcoming sophomore album, 'Take Care.'

Nicki took over the interview with a few questions of her own, starting off with what was it like to be back with his Young Money family after touring in the U.K. earlier this year and what's up with the new beard and curly hair look he's been rocking lately.

Songwriter 'Heather Bright' Blasts Rihanna, Kanye & Justin Bieber Over Song Publishing

Songwriter Heather Bright is letting the world in on artists who fail to give credit to the true stars behind the music. In a recent interview with Free Wired the songwriter mentions international recording artists from Rihanna, Kanye to Justin Bieber who fail to pay full publishing fees on songs they didn't pen.

"Rihanna takes publishing. Justin Bieber takes publishing. Kanye West takes publishing," she said in an interview with Free Wired. "On all the stuff that they don't write, they take publishing."

The succuessful songwriter penned hits for major artists such as Justin Bieber whom she co-wrote the smash hit "Somebody to Love" as a track for Usher. Once the single released, much to her surprise, the pop teen sensation received a writing credit for her work. To add insult to injury, Heather fails to receive any royalties when he performs the song in concert, either.

"How did he get a writing credit? That's an interesting question," she said. "I don't know ... You can't be Rihanna and be producing and writing records. You just can't be doing that. You just won't have time. All the appearances, the performances, and the this and that. You gotta show up to record. You gotta promote the album, go on tour."

It seems Bright's intentions were only to defend Britney Spears from fans who fail to believe she writes her own songs. Working with the pop singer and being the co-writer to "Trouble For Me," a song off Britney's new album, 'Femme Fatale,' Heather Bright claims Spears doesn't take publishing royalties that don't belong to her and called her team a "bonafide class act."
Well damn!

"..In my experience, from a business standpoint, her entire team is nothing less than a bonafide class act! If I ever have another song that she wants and another artist happens to want the same song… Britney will get it EVERYTIME!.."

Britney's "Trouble For Me":

A few placements from Heather Bright is Justin Bieber's  “Somebody to Love.”,  Ashley Tisdale’s “Hot Mess,” Fantasia’s “Even Angels,” the Paradiso Girls' "Boys Go Crazy," Far*East Movement's "Don't Look Now," and Toni Braxton’s “Hands Tied.”.

Stalley Interviews With Vibe On Lincoln Way Nights Mixtape, Dame Dash & Mos Def

Representing Massillon, Ohio, rapper Stalley linked up with VIBE for an exclusive one on one. Stalley spoke on his inspiration Mos Def, his latest mixtape Lincoln Way Nights, how his relationship with Dame Dash came about and why mixtapes are an essential part of the music business for not only independent but established artists.

On the latest mixtape Lincoln Way Nights and his growth as an artists since the release of Autobiography:

Autobiography was just that, it was something that I wanted to give to fans and to people who were becoming new fans of who I was and I wanted them to get to know who I was as a man. It wasn’t meant to be super lyrical or super great. It was just to be insightful and to actually give an introduction to who I was. I think Lincoln Way Nights progress was I gave a lot more of myself in this product. I took people home with me to Massillon, Ohio; I gave you a sound that I created that defines and represents Massillon Ohio that Midwest car culture sound. That’s something that is represented in the music and something that’s represented in my life. I’m a big fan of where I’m from but I’m also a big fan of muscle cars that whole thing growing up I had friends and family who spent a lot of time working on muscle cars and under the hood.

On his relationship with Dame Dash and how they connected:
Dame is a good friend and also someone who had given me great advice going through the industry or just building my brand and myself as an artist. I met him though the Creative Control. My friend took me over there and was like 'I got these guys that shoot great videos and I think you guys will fit well because what you do musically is exactly what they do through their visuals.' I met them and played them the song. Right away they were like we got to shoot a video! We shot a video right there on the spot and it took us like 35-45 minutes; they edited it and we put it out the next day! People really took to it and showed love. Dame was like 'yo, this space DD172 is welcome to you whenever you want. I really like what you’re doing. I love what you represent in your music. I love your style and how you carry yourself. ' He just took a genuine liking to what I was doing. It’s just been a friendship from there.

On established artists relying on the mixtape circuit:
Mixtapes set up albums, mixtapes set up tours. Mixtapes are like an album and that’s why I spend time and I create each mixtape like an album. That’s why I treated Lincoln Way Nights like it was an album. That’s why people are giving it great reviews and saying it’s a classic. It’s only like a month and a half old! So it’s still brand new. For me to put out new music or even to be in the studio working on new music is kind of crazy when it hasn’t even gotten the exposure or recognition that I believe that it can get. It still has great legs; people don’t give their music time to breathe or give it legs so they chop it short and that takes away from the quality of the music.
On his insipration, Mos Def & stage presence
Yeah, I definitely look at those type of artists like Mos Def, Kings of Leon, and even Bruce Springsteen. He’s an artist who has great showmanship and great stage presence and put’s on great shows and that’s what I try to do. I can guarantee anyone who doesn’t know me or who may be on a fence about being a fan of my music, when they see me live, they will leave being a fan! I take great pride in that and I put on a great show; I work hard, I know what it means to touch those people when they’re in the same room as you. That’s just being a public speaker period; like being the President of the United States or a professor with words about whatever works and connects with whatever gets people relieved and understand what you’re trying to come across with. It’s much easier that way to come across visually than just to be heard on a cd or just seen on a video.

Drake Addresses Rumors of Young Money Departure While On Lil Wayne Tour

Drake was definitely the topic of discussion on every social media site when a "not so exciting" rumor spread stating his departure from the Young Money family.

In previous reports, the rumor stemmed from an argument in which Drake, Lil Wayne and Birdman had over unpaid royalties. According to HipHopWired, Drake made a guest appearance in D.C. Sunday at Lil Waynes "I Am Music II."

Right before Drake broke out into his hit single, "Forever," in front of the massive crowd out in D.C.'s Verizon Center, he addressed the rumor stating:

“You see today, when I landed in D.C. and I got off the plane, this n*gga looked me in my eyes and he asked me, ‘Did you drop out of Young Money?' And I looked him right back in his eyes and I said, ‘Boy, are you out your motherf*ckin' mind?!' Man, I want this sh*t ‘Forever!”

Now, I know this is like music to the ears for all you YM fans out there. Being a fan myself, I must say I'm glad to hear it's only a rumor and nothing more. I would hate for the YMCMB team to #fail.

The next artist to release off the Young Money label is Lil Twist, his debut album "Don't Get It Twisted" is scheduled to release on June 29th. In a recent interview on BET's 106 & Park, Twist mentioned he'll release another mixtape before the release of his upcoming album.

Beyonce Gears Towards June For The Release Of New LP

The hype around Beyonce's fourth studio album is only getting stronger as the diva continues to make headlines throughout the media while adoring fans leave comments in desperation of her return.

According to Denis Handlin of Sony Music Australia, Beyonce's album could be here sooner than we all expect. Serving as top label priority, Sony execs from all over the world are said to have gathered for a secret meeting in New York last week, while the R&B/Pop singer played material from the LP in person. Denis Handlin shared details from the meeting with Daily Telegraph:
Sony Music Australia boss Denis Handlin flew to New York for meetings with executives last week, and was treated to an audience with the bootylicious lady herself.
The former Destiny’s Child singer rocked up in person to play international Sony executives songs from her new and fourth solo studio album, due for release late June.
Before playing the music, Beyonce said: “I just love making music and sharing it with my fans.”
As a solo artist, Beyonce has sold more than 11 million albums, and millions more with Destiny’s Child.
She is one of the most successful popstars of her generation.
“It was just amazing,” Handlin told Insider of the new music. “She came in and played us six tracks from the album. She wants to do a big tour off the back of this record, which will include Australia. These songs, the best description I can give is groundbreaking; she’s gone to another level.”

Sooner than later Ms. Bey will stampede over the names listed throughout the billboard charts. The project's first single should be debuting in the next few weeks. But, could it be sooner? Fashion Designer Robert Cavalli confirmed Beyonce wore an outfit from his collection "while filming the first video from her new album."

With photos of Bey tailored in 70's attire and speculations of a new sound, the 'euro techno' sound, I can only guess what we'll be in for. We know the stans will love it either way!
